During my time traveling I want to see unique places to come home with the most amazing experiences.
I might be able to cross off some of these points on my bucket list during my time traveling in Australia and New Zealand.
Maybe you might be able to cross off some of these places with the help of my post.
Let me know if you have seen one of these places.
I would love to learn about your experience!
- See glowing water
The water is glowing due to bioluminescent algae which glows when in movement.
It occurs only in specific places and can usually not be predicted when it is going to glow.
Some places where we could have a chance to see the water glowing:
“The Blue Grotto” in Malta
“Jervis Bay” in Australia
“Mosquito Bay” in Puerto Rico
“Mission Bay” in San Diego, California
“Toyama Bay” in Japan
On the Maldives
“Auckland” in New Zealand
- See glow worms in a cave
I haven’t seen them in nature yet but I have seen them in a manmade cave on “Tamborine Mountain” on the Gold coast in Australia which was pretty awesome.
My goal is to see glow worms in “Waitomo Caves” in New Zealand though.
The glow worms that can be seen in those caves only occur in Australia and New Zealand.
They are in the larvae stage of their life which is the longest stage in which they emit a bioluminescent light to attract their prey into their small threads.
If you want to do a guided tour through caves you can so for example in:
“Waitomo Caves” in New Zealand
“Spellbound Cave” in New Zealand
“Te Anau Glow worm Cave” in New Zealand
“Glow worm Cave in Tamborine Mountain” in Australia
“Marakoopa Cave” in Australia
“Glow worm Caves in Blue Mountains” in Australia
If you are lucky you might even see them in a cave or the forest for free as they like damp and dark environments:
“Waipu Caves” in New Zealand
“Abbey Caves” in New Zealand
“Hokitika Glow worm dell” in New Zealand
“Melba Gully Glow Worms, Great Otway National Park” in Australia
“Glow Worm Tunnel, Wollemi National Park” in Australia
“Glow Worm Glen, Bundanoon” in Australia
- Visit “Hobbiton”
This is for all fans of “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit”.
The movie set of the Hobbit town “Hobbiton” can be visited on a tour in “Matamata” on the north island of New Zealand.
You can see all the houses with a guide, get a drink in “The Green Dragon Inn” afterwards and get souvenirs for all your friends!
- See a pink lake
I am planning on seeing “Hutt Lagoon” on the coast in Western Australia which is one of the pink lakes that exist on earth.
The lakes look pink because of the appearance of a salt-tolerant algae called ” Dunaliella salina” in conjunction with specific bacteria.
There are more pink lakes around the world like:
“Las Salinas de Torrevieja” in Spain
“Lake Natron” in Tanzania
“Lake Hillier” in Australia
“Laguna Colorada” in Bolivia
“Dusty Rose Lake” in Canada
- See the northern lights
I think this is something that is probably on everybody’s bucket list because it is just so unique and beautiful.
Northern lights are caused by solar electrical particles from the sun that get to the earths atmosphere in solar winds.
They get attracted to the magnetic north and south pole and react with the gas in the atmosphere which creates this phenomenon of northern and also southern lights.
They can mostly be seen in winter as in summer there is usually not enough darkness on the poles to see the northern lights.
So the best time to travel north is between mid September and mid April.
The best place to see the northern lights is at the arctic circle, places that are recommended:
“Reykjavik” in Iceland
“Tromso” in Norway
“Lapland” in Finland
“Jukkasjärvi” in Sweden
“Yellowknife” in Canada
“Orkney” in Scotland
One response to “Bucket list places”
Northern lights😍😍😍
My biggest bucket list point
