Sending a letter to a pen pal is like sending a small gift to someone, and it gives me so much dopamine receiving a letter with cute stuff in it.
Of course, the main thing is writing a letter, but who doesn’t get excited over little extras they get?
I gathered some ideas of things you can send to your pen pals as little extras to make their day.
Always be sure the items are small and thin enough to fit in your letter and aren’t too heavy.
Stationary you can send, that they can use for letters themselves:
- Stickers
- Washi tape samples
- Sticky note samples
- Pretty paper samples
- Cut-outs out of magazines
- Pressed flowers
- Postcards
- Paper clips
- Gift tags
- Twine/ string
- Paint chip cards
Things you created:
- Collages
- A poem
- Doodles
- Drawings
- Polaroid pictures
- Friendship bracelet
- A spritz of your perfume
- Embroidery pieces
- Sewing pieces
- Paper garlands
- Origami crafts
Things they can use:
- Tea bags
- Hot cocoa or coffee packets
- Bookmarks
- Iron on patches
- Recepies
- Temporary tattoos
- Pins
- Gum or thin snacks
- Plant seeds
- Ribbon
- Rings
- Keychains
- Face masks
- A wax seal cut out
- Planner pages
- Magnets
- Confetti
- Cute band-aids
- Powder drink packs
- Glow in the dark stars
- Notes to a song on an instrument both of you play
- Colouring sheets
Random little things:
- A map of your hometown
- Coins of your country
- Newspaper articles
- Business cards you find pretty
- Information papers of places you’ve visited
- Sudokus
You can include all these things in your letter in a small plastic or paper envelope your pen pal can also reuse.
You can include everything else you find at home that you would be happy to receive that is small enough and flat.
If you have more ideas, let me know!
Happy pen paling!
